The case of the disintegrating shoes....
As he lugged his bag towards the door, the cell phone beeped ominously. Lacing up his (very new) pair of sneakers, he looked through the SMS that he'd just received, "World of Sports is having 50% sales now! Go get something LOL." Laughing somewhat derisively at the ill-timed message, he was wearing a brand-new pair of cross-trainers, for crying out loud!
********************
Heading to Armenian Street to buy breakfast, he thought he'd heard a strange flapping sound. With each step, the glued-on rear sole of his left shoe went flapping in the air. His irritation was apparent. As he headed over to SOB post-purchase, he nearly tripped on the raised metal bumps that were supposed to cater to the blind/disabled. He thought he'd heard a ripping sound, but he dismissed it as a figment of his imagination.
Heading over to SOA, he'd entered the glass elevator landing before realising that the rear sole had completely come off. Boy was he pissed. Heading back to SOB to retrieve his rear sole, he then noticed that his left front sole was coming off as well.

Lunch was again bought from Armenian Street, and this time the he kept tripping over his left front sole. Disgusted, he wrenched the entire rubber padding off.
What a day... Or so he thought...
********************
Post-lessons, he decided to head straight home.
It was just after reaching Dhoby Ghaut NSL Station that he felt his RIGHT shoe tremble. Looking down, he was aghast at the sight.
THE ENTIRE SOLE, together with the SPONGED PADDING was about to fall apart!
He had no choice but to hobble along the route from the NSL to the NEL. Sam, his OG mate was trying to stifle his laughter at his predicament. Pitiful looks were cast on him by passers-by, and what a picture it was - A man struggling defiantly to overcome the disability that had befallen him.
********************
Upon reaching Sengkang MRT, the sole struggled valiantly to rid itself of the strands of glue still holding it to the shoe, and eventually succeeded near Compassvale Road. The WHOLE FREAKING SOLE EVENTUALLY CAME OUT, and he did not know whether to laugh or to cry. The detached sole in one hand, and his phone in the other, he was a sorry sight.
What's the moral of the story?
Never look down on the power of a SMS advertising 50% discounts on footwear.
