A Super Long Hiatus

And I hereby declare my break from blogging over.
It's been an eventful few weeks -- Or has it been months -- since I last wrote anything here.

I've gotten myself into SMUBS -- the Buddhist equivalent of Nick and Meng's FIDES and gotten to know yet another circle of people. The Marist Gang and the Laura Gang. We've become incredibly close-knit in this short span of time, and I certainly see the reason for it. But firstly, let me answer a few questions that have been directed at my sudden act of faith.

Why the Buddhist Society?

I've not been a devout Buddhist even though I profess it to be my de facto religion. In fact, I know close to nothing about the religion. It doesn't help that the Singaporean Buddhist traditions are sullied with a mishmash of Taoist rites (think fengshui, the Monkey King and the numerous gods and deities) and ancestral beliefs.

Isn't Buddhism something passé?

I don't think that it would be fair to pass judgement on something which we have limited knowledge on, and before I make a decision on my own choice of religion, I would like to know more about the religion that I have been born into, and that can only be achieved through the active participation in Buddhist tradition, and that, in itself, is the basis for my decision to join in the establishment of SMUBS.

The members of my fledgling Society, 'cept a few.

And yea, the results are out. The end of my 1st year in SMU, and I'm no longer a freshie (for the second time). Oh well, how many people can boast to being a greenhorn TWICE? This time round though, it is a much happier me that ends my freshman year, and my circle of friends can attest to that. I've achieved the goal that I set out for myself upon my decision to leave NUS, and with that, I've answered all the questions that were asked at that critical juncture in life.

The only way to go, is forward and UP. Heads up, my friends, and soldier on. The road is long, but you ain't gonna go alone. Trust me to walk the talk.
